The Weather Girl

This is a brief update by Pierre Poutine (nom de plume of Derek Moore) on our film for Crazy 8s

The Weather Girl

When I called Writer/Director Carleen Kyle to see how things were going, she noted that she was then currently drooling. Why, I had to ask? Well, that’s what happens when you have eight days to make a killer short film and have slept for less than half of your required nightly average. So yeah, she was a little tired. Carleen was still in good spirits to talk about her and Producer Nathalie Dos Santos’ flick about a former weather girl struggling with her new role as full-time caregiver for her incapacitated father who takes advantage of two evangelists that come to their house. The production has some interesting stories to tell, like this one: they arrived on location at a house in Port Coquitlam early on the first day of shooting. One of the lead actors enters, in wardrobe and makeup, and their character is supposed to be in a wheelchair. The crew looks around at each other: yep, somebody forgot to bring the wheelchair. A moment of panic sets in and they think they’ve lost at least a couple of hours. The owner of the house is standing behind them, overhearing the entire kerfuffle. He says, if they need a wheelchair, he’s just happens to have one in his place, and of course they can use it. The crew collectively drop to their knees and begin praising the homeowner. Okay, that last part didn’t happen but everything else was true! theweathergirl-1Another fact-checked occurrence: the team was shooting on a location that included four squawking parrots, a cage of finches, and a live aquarium. Fortunately they were shooting MOS, so they didn’t have to worry about sound, but the noise drove the cast and crew crazy! (Excellent…more converts for our team) Carleen also wanted to note that while the above location sounds like a pet store, it is most definitely not a pet store. You’ll have to find out what it is by coming to the screening next Friday night. Carleen finished by noting that the support she and her team received was ‘mind-boggling’ for her, and incredibly humbling. She then abruptly fell asleep before apologizing, saying goodbye, and then falling asleep again. Enjoy it, Carleen, it’s well-deserved.

Fairly Legal - Season 2

I am working on my first union show this year. Here is the trailer:

In the second season of "Fairly Legal," feisty and engaging mediator Kate Reed (Sarah Shahi) has a new conflict – and potential hot romance - on her hands in the form of the sharp, hustling, up-and-coming trial attorney Ben Grogan, played by new series regular Ryan Johnson. Hired by managing partner Lauren Reed (Virginia Williams) to save the firm which is on the verge of collapse, Ben’s presence adds fuel to Kate’s already at-odds relationship with her same-aged stepmother and puts pressure on her relationship with her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Justin Patrick (Michael Trucco). While Ben’s ambulance chasing ways represent everything Kate hates about lawyers, their sexual tension and chemistry is undeniable.

Driven by her passion for justice, Kate continues her crusades against the endless bureaucracy and daily injustices of the system using her unorthodox methods, pull-no-punches attitude and legal savvy to resolve conflicts in the face of a wide variety of adversaries. Getting people what they need and finding the "true win" is Kate’s specialty, expertly handling multi-million dollar corporate disputes, personal family feuds and everything in between. As always, caught in the middle of it all is Kate’s geek-chic assistant, Leonardo Prince (Baron Vaughn). Returning guest stars this season include Gerald McRaney as Judge Nicastro and Esai Morales as D.A. Aaron Davidson. Additional guest stars include Mark Moses and Barry Shabaka Henley.

From Universal Cable Productions, the series is executive produced by Steve Stark and Peter Ocko, who also serves as showrunner. Joining this season as producer/director is USA veteran Anton Cropper. The series is co-commissioned by Universal Networks International (UNI), the global channels division of NBCUniversal.

"The Clean-Up" behind the scenes

That is one of the projects I worked on as a PA and actor in 2011.

Some on-set footage from New Image Entertainment's upcoming feature, "The Clean-Up", directed by Chris Scheuerman. The Clean-Up is a gritty thriller set in the near future, where a few unlucky small-time criminals get caught up in a brutal and bizarre sci-fi conspiracy that reaches from the lowest gutters of the city to the highest halls of power.
